Alice (Brant) Bretz, age 84, passed away at 10:01 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2011, at
her residence.
She was born on February 19, 1927 in Osborne county, KS the daughter of the late Edmund and Ruzena (Sita) Brant.
She married Samuel L. Bretz at the Methodist Church in Osborne County, KS. He preceded her in death.
Alice graduated from a one room school house in Lucas, KS, she then went on to become a teacher in Kansas until her marriage to her husband. She was a member of the Service League since 1991, and served on the board of directors for Oasis Women’s Center in Alton, IL for 20 years, running the resale shop for many of those years. She was awarded the Riverbend Growth Association Volunteer of the Year award 1998 for her volunteer work at the Caravan Oasis resale shop. She was member of the LIFT Group in Alton and she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Secrease and her husband Michael, of Ponchatoula, LA and two sons, John J. Bretz and wife Jeannine of Jacksonville, FL, and Robert W. Bretz and his wife Brenda Schilling of Alton, IL; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; three brothers, Edmund Brant of Luray, KS, Joe Brant of Wheatland, WY, Robert Brant of Lucas, KS; and three sisters, Georgia Schwemmer of Lucas, KS, Helen Thomas of Presho, SD, and Donna Vonada of Sylvan Grove, KS.
Graveside services will be at 10 am on July 25, 2011 at the Lucas Cemetery, in Lucas, KS. with John Bretz officiating.
