Alfred "Red" Alexander Spa, 87, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025 at Liberty Village in Maryville, with his family by his side.  

He was born on May 29, 1938 in Oranjestad, Aruba, Netherlands, West Indies the son of Lawrence and Henrietta (Plieger) Spa. "Red" married Helen Wilson on June 11, 1960, and she preceded him in death on 2005. Red then married Carole Jameson on June 28, 2013 and she too, preceded him in death in 2020.

Red was a member of Faith Fellowship Church in Alton. He was a member of Bootleggers Motorcycle Club for many years. He was a member of the boilermakers union and worked for National Maintenance. Red enjoyed fishing, cars, camping, and riding motorcycles. His greatest joys were spending time with his family.

Red is survived by six children and their spouses, Debbie and Joe Harris of Bethalto, Donna and Paul Brenker of Bunker Hill, David and Tammy Spa of Miramar Beach, FL, Dorothy McGowen of Brighton, and Vicky Chapman of Wood River; many grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel and Carrie Hartley, Deanna Wintjen, Joey and Alicia Harris, Adam and Terra Harris, Jimmy and Nicole Cummings, Ashley Brenker, Ethan and Monica Brenker, Bryan and Alyssa Spa, Kyle and Lindsey Spa, Heather Spa, Thomas (Taylor) Fox, Taryn Fox, Torrie Fox, Whitney and Hunter Rigney, and Lindsay Chapman; many great-grandchildren, Aerowyn, Jayda, Brianna, Ella, Baya, Piper, Easton, Appalachia, Arlie, Emory, Chase, Caden, Marie, Carter, Brynlee, Jameson, Rylee, Hudson, Callan, Willow, Violet, and Alaina Brenker; two brothers, Ed Spa, and John and Diane Spa; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wives; Red is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Delbert; two brothers, Jacob Spa and Henk Spa; and a great-granddaughter, Oakley.

Visitation will be at held Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Pastor Daymond Talkington officiating.

Burial will take place in Upper Alton Cemetery with Military Burial Honors provided by VFW #1308 of Alton.

Memorials are suggested to the 5 A's.
