Albert “Bob” Kaltenbaeck, 91, died at 4:20 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2011 at Fountain View manor in Granite City.
Born February 15, 1919 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Albert and Millie Etta (Miller) Kaltenbaeck. Mr. Kaltenbaeck served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a bugler. He earned three Bronze Stars. He was a member of the VFW Post 1308 and served in the color guard for over 25 years. He was also a member of Elm Street Presbyterian Church. He worked as a bus boy and bartender for the Stratford Hotel and as assistant manager at Lockhaven County Club. He owned and operated the Clifton Terrace Inn and retired from Alton Memorial Hospital as a food service manager. On August 4, 1947 in Jackson, MO, he married the former Mary Kelley. She preceded him in death on December 31, 2005.
Surviving is a daughter, Marcella “Penny” Sallade and her husband James of Normal, IL, one son, Albert Kaltenbaeck and his wife Lillian of Olathe, KS, two grandchildren, Christopher Sallade and wife Angel of Normal, IL, and Jennifer Sallade of Normal, IL, one great grandson, Armond Sallade, one sister, Nellie Wamser of Fenton, MO, and a niece, Eileen Klein and husband Russ of Fenton, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a nephew, Edwin Wamser.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO with full military honors by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
Reverend Tom Asbury will officiate.
