Adron Cook

Adron Lavell Cook, 86, was called home to heaven on Monday, November 19, 2012, surrounded by his family.

Adron was born Oct. 1, 1926 in Wood River, Ill. to John and Elizabeth (Williams) Cook.

He graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School.

He married Carolyn Louise Layton, November 12, 1954, at the United Brethren Church in Wood River.

He retired as a Mold Maker from Owens-Illinois Glass in 1988 after 39 years of service. There he served several years as shop steward and president of Flint Glass Workers Union Local #43. He was always very active in his church and served as Choir Director for many years.

Adron is survived by his wife Carolyn; daughters, Marlene (William) Knetzer of Alton, Janette (Bryan) Wilburn of Alton, Cheryl (Randy) Newberry of Dow and Sarah (Aaron) Hankins of Rosewood Heights; as well as one son, Michael Cook of Kearns, Utah.  He has fourteen grandchildren, Carol (Jeff) Heisse, Paul (Heather) Knetzer, Matthew (Amy) Knetzer, Timothy Perry, Jonathan (Kiki) Newberry, Nicholas Newberry, David Cook, Kenneth Cook, Daniel Newberry, Kylinn Boyer, Samual Cook, Colton Boyer, Katherine Cook, Parker Hankins; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Hewitt, Logan Heisse and William Knetzer; and fourteen step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Family also includes sisters-in-law, Lavon Cook and Lois Cook.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clinton Andrew Cook and Willis Eugene Cook.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, and will continue Friday, Nov. 23 at First United Methodist of Jerseyville from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m.  A private grave side ceremony will follow at Woodland Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist of Jerseyville, Building Fund.
