R. JoAnn Macias, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away with her husband Tom by her side on Wednesday, December 3,2014 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.  She was 78 years old. 

JoAnn was born November 3, 1936 in Buncombe, Illinois to Rose and Earl Baker. She is a 1954 graduate of Civic Memorial High School.  JoAnn married Thomas Macias on February 2, 1957 at Meadowbrook Church of God. He survives.

She worked for Laclede Steel for over thirty years and advanced to the position of insurance administrator, retiring in 1993. JoAnn was an avid fan of the St. Louis Blues and Cardinals, and also a passionate gardener and artist.  She was a member of the Decorative Painting Association of St. Louis.  She traveled the Midwest and the world studying art.  Her most memorable excursion was an art trip to Italy with her friend Delores Kessler. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Tom; they visited many places in Europe including London, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, Greece, and Turkey. Their travels in the United States were from coast to coast including Alaska and Hawaii

She enjoyed Planear painting and many of her works are on display throughout the U.S. She also loved to travel She had a special relationship with her many nieces and nephews.  She was a friend to many and a follower of Christ.  JoAnn was also a lifelong supporter of the Republican Party and an active member of many local civic organizations. 

She is survived by two sisters, Viola Simpson and Saundra Moody, as well as her many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Edward, and Robert Baker and one sister, Anna Jean Lucas. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
