Gary Ambrose

Gary L. Ambrose, 65, passed away at 9:45 pm Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at his home with his family by his side, while under the care of Heartland Hospice.

He was born on August 22, 1948 in Alton, IL, the son of Charles W. and Mary (Gorman) Mayberry Ambrose.

He married Victoria J. Miinch on December 17, 1966 in Patton, MO. She survives.

Gary served his country in the U. S. Army.  He worked at the Alton Box Board for 26 years and then was a pipefitter for American Steel for 13 years.  He owned East Side Signs.  He was a member of the Forest Homes First Southern Baptist Church.  He enjoyed wood working and other numerous hobbies and was an avid fan of country and blue grass music. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Charles (Candy) Ambrose of Bethalto, Gary (Ramona) Ambrose of Clarksville, TN, Brad (Casey) Ambrose of Moro and Melissa (Charles) Pence of Cottage Hills; thirteen grandchildren, Charles Jr., Kyle, Kieler and Myranda Ambrose, Eric Evans, Brenden, Brookelyn and Kerrigan Ambrose, Jami and Lucas Ambrose, Justice and Liam Pence; two great grandchildren, Delilah Ambrose and Chloe Rule; his siblings and their spouses, Charlene (John) Barth of Bloomington, Pat (Juan) Woods of Granite City and William ‘Bill” (Evelyn “Abby”) Ambrose of Bethalto; his mother-in-law, Wilma Tesson of Jackson, MO and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Corey Ambrose, a granddaughter, Liberty Pence and his father-in-law, Lowell Miinch.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Forest Homes First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Thomas Fea and Pastor Calvin Reynolds officiating.

Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.  

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
