Barbara Sue Anderson Berghoff, 66, died unexpectedly at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at The Villages Regional Hospital in Lady Lake, Florida.

Born January 3, 1947 in Alton, she was the daughter of Carl and Virginia (Wenzel) Anderson. She graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School in 1965. She received an Associate’s Degree in Science in 1982, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor degree in Education in 1983 from Hannibal-LaGrange College, Hannibal, MO. In 1991, she received her Master’s Degree from SIU-Edwardsville. She was also a member of the Phi Kappa Honor Society. Until her retirement in 2005, she was a Catholic school teacher having taught at Holy Family in Hannibal, St. Ambrose in Godfrey and St. Angela Merici in St. Louis. She was also a principal at St. Isidore’s in Farmersville, St. Bernards in Wood River and Holy Family in Granite City.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Paul Edward and his wife, Melanie (Oyarazabal) of Alton; Kevin Joseph and his wife Sara (Williams) and their children Kennedy and Jackson of Grafton; Todd Michael and his wife, Amy (Ozanich) and their children Collin, Emma and Landon of Summerville, SC; and a daughter Amanda Joel and her husband Dr. Christopher Dussold of Sorento; and her sons Jerry and Joel Bemis. She is also survived by her twin sister, Beverly Gaither of Godfrey and several nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her long-time companion, Wayne Huck of Holiday Shores and his son Tim and wife, Nancy, and their daughters Britteny and Jessica of Arnold, MO; and another granddaughter Mackenzie Huck of Ozark, MO. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward James whom she married at St. Mary’s Church in Alton on June 22, 1968, and a Godson, Ryan Gardner

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and Masses, memorials may be made to the Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis, MO, in honor of her granddaughter Kennedy.
