J. Raymond “Ray” Leonard, 70, of Godfrey, passed away at 5:00 am, Saturday, October 26, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side.  He was born on January 26, 1943 in Madison, IL, the son of the late Joseph “Bud” and Margaret Ann (Wathen) Leonard.He married Patricia A. Mathews on April 16, 1971 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  She survives.Ray served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He worked for McDonnell Douglas for 26 years and then went to work at the Alton Belle for 18 years as a dealer.  Ray graduated from Alton High School, was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was an Alton Knights of Columbus 3rd degree knight.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling and working in the yard.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.In addition to his wife of 42 years, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Steve Menke of Godfrey and Jennifer and Derek Osborn of Collinsville; five grandchildren, Brennan and Noah Menke and Hannah, Carsten and Abbi Olsson; and a brother and sister-in-law, Terry L. and Karen Leonard of Mission, TX.He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, October 28, 2013 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Military Burial Rites will be performed by the Alton VFW Post #1308.Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Alton at a later date.Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's School. Online condolences and a guestbook may be found at http://www.staten-fine.com/.
