Karl M. Whetzel, 79, of Roxana, IL, died at at 3:05 a.m. Thurs Oct. 17, 2013 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL.
He was born Aug. 10, 1934 in Alton, IL to the late Paul & Sina Elizabeth (MacMahill) Whetzel.
On.June 22, 1968, he and Ethel Yvonne Sargent were married in Wood River, IL at the Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church. She survives in Roxana.
The U.S. Air Force veteran retired in 1997 from Labor Local #218 in Alton and had recently received his 50 year recognition. He was an active member of Crosspoint Church. He spent his free time always improving and expanding his home for his family.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by: a son & daughter-in-law, Brad &Kristine Whetzel of Wood River, a daughter and son-in-law, Laura & Charles Heppe of St. Charles, MO, 4 grandchildren, Jennifer & Joseph Whetzel and Grace & Charlie Heppe and a sister, Barbara (Gerald) Jennings of Sterling, VA.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Wills and a brother, Paul Whetzel.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sun. Oct. 20, 2013 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be at 10:00 a.m. Mon. Oct. 21, 2013 with Revs. Ken Clark & Casey Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Crosspoint Church or Eden Village Nursing Care.
