Ordell Hash

Ordell John Hash, 84, died at 6:58 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

  Born March 30, 1929 in Arlington, Ill., he was a son of Lewis T. Hash, Sr. and Cora (Barnett) Hash.

  He married Bernita F. “Bert” Wilcox on Jan. 17, 1959.  She preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 1997.

  John retired as a laborer from Granite City Steel in 1986 after 31 years of service.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean Conflict.

  Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Dara Hash of Wood River and Ervin and Cindy Hash of Bethalto; 3 grandchildren, Scott (Cindy) Hash, Brandi (David) Howard, and Heather (Brian) Kendall; 4 great grandchildren, Madi Hash, and Brent, Spencer and Matt Howard; a brother, Ray Hash of Edwardsville; and two sisters, Grace Moeller of Lebanon, Mo. and Shelby Kalnas of Peru, Ill.

  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Brittingham; and brothers, Lewis and William Hash.

  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17.

  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

  Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
