Ruth Evelyn Deeder Wooten, age 84 died at 7:25 AM on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Eunice C. Smith Nursing Home in Alton. She was born June 13, 1929 in Athensville, IL a daughter of the late Oren “Jim” Cummins and Ruth Ann (Prather) Cummins. She was a 1947 graduate of Greenfield High School and a 1948 graduate of Lockwood Beauty School in Jacksonville Illinois.
She married Donavon J. Deeder on December 6, 1947 and they resided in the Godfrey area for many years. He died March 27, 1972. Together they were the parents of four children; Brenda Oehler (Dean) of Godfrey, Donavon E. Deeder (Jeanette) of Godfrey, Cynthia Holt (Larry) of Brighton, and Mark Deeder who preceded her in death. She later married Billie J. Wooten on June 30, 1973 at Curdie Heights Baptist Church in Alton and he died on January 7, 2013. She helped raise Bill’s daughter Sheila Miller (Mark) who currently lives in St. Louis.
Evelyn was a hairdresser and owner of Milton Beauty Salon in Alton since 1981. She had many friends and loved to camp, fish and work in her yard. She had two special Shih Tzu’s, Patches and Phoebe.
Surviving include her children; Brenda, Don and Cindy as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, her special friend and co-worker; Joyce Witcher and Bill’s children; Billie D. Wooten (Brenda)of Valparaiso, Indiana, Susan Carrington of St. Louis and Terry Wooten (Linda) of Godfrey.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by both her husbands, a son; Mark Deeder, a sister; Beulah Morrow and two brothers; Gerald and Harold “Charlie” Cummins.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where services will be at 10:00 am on Friday with Rev. Ralph Blake officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis or the Riverbend Humane Society at 23402 Crystal Lake Rd, Jerseyville, IL 62052.
