William Warner

William Russell "Rusty" Warner died on January 27 ,2013 at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville, lllinois. Rusty was born on June 14, L924 in Raywick, Kentucky, the son of Marion Albert Warner and Kathleen Thompson Warner.  Following the death of Rusty's father Marion, and the remarriage of his mother to Claire Simmons, the family moved first to Indianapolis, Indiana and then to New Salem, lllinois before settling in Jerseyville when Rusty was eight years old. After graduating from Jerseyville High School, Rusty enlisted in the Army Corps of Engineers and served his country at Normandy, The Battle of the Bulge, Germany and the Philippines from

1942 to 1946. In 1949 Rusty married Ruth Marie Chappell. They remained happily married for 62 years.  In L950, their only child, Dennis was born. In 1953 Rusty received a Degree in Accounting from Shurtleff College.  Rusty retired in L987 after working for 38 years at the United States Post Office, spending the last 27 years as a Rural Route Carrier; as well as a number of years as the Comptnoller of the Jersey Savings and Loan. Rusty's life was devoted to his family, his church and his town. He served twice as President of the Jaycees, as well as volunteering for numerous fund-raisers, was extremely


active in the Methodist Church, and was elected three times as the Master Mason of Lodge234 in Jerseyville.  During his early retirement years, Rusty and Ruth traveled extensively and made the most of their memberships at the Jerseyville Country Club. When medical set-backs curtailed his physical activities, Rusty
continued his traveling with books and online journeys.  Rusty was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Marie Chappell Warner his sister, Anna Mathena Russell, an infant half-brother James, and an infant half-sister Emma Jane. He leaves his son, Dennis L. Warner and daughterin-law Miranda, of Flushing, New York; his grandson Alexander Russell Warner, Alexander's wife Alisa, and daughter Sydney Grace of Monmouth Junction, New Jersey and grand-daughter Naomi Ruth Warner of Flushing, New York. Rusty leaves a sister Nita and five nieces and nephews in California, as well as two nieces, Marilyn Hammond and her husband Dale of Litchfield, lllinois, and Bonnie Russell of Athens, lllinois also a nephew James Russell of Athens, lllinois. Ruth and Rusty's son Dennis and his wife Miranda would like to publically acknowledge and thank:


Caryl Lyles, and her daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Dean G rdy, of Jerseyville, Ruth's niece Ketra and her husband Scott Nailor of Godfrey and Rusty's niece Maralyn and her husband Dale of Litchfield. They all gave unstintingly of their time and affection to Ruth and Rusty during their lives, and especially in their final years.

Masonic Rites at 3:45 p.m. with, Visitation from 4 to 7 on Thursday,  September 26, with a service at 7 p.m., with the Reverend Mark Myers, at Alexander & Gubser's Funeral Home, Jerseyville. Internment will take place on Friday, September 27 at 11:00 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Jerseyville, with Military Rites by Jerseyville American Legion Post #492. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Jerseyville.
