Edward Dale McAninch, 86, passed away at 4:00 pm Sunday, September 15, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton with his family by his side.
He was born on March 17, 1927 in Bakersfield, MO, the son of Warren and Bertha (Broyles) McAninch.
He married Wilma E. Theisen on May 19, 1974 in Alton, IL. She survives.
Edward was a foreman for Laclede Steel for 36 years, until his retirement. He was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto, where he was very active in his Sunday School class. He enjoyed gardening and fishing and most of all he loved being with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Rhonda McAninch of Bethalto and Robert and Marsha McAninch of Godfrey; four stepchildren and their spouses, Gary Von Bergen of Bethalto, Linda Von Bergen of East Alton, Randy and Cindy Von Bergen of Cottage Hills, Dawn Abner and Alan Oertel of East Alton; seven grandchildren, Brady, Mack and Christopher McAninch, Sarah Von Bergen, Zach Sconce, Angie Fish and Dustin Abner; five great grandchildren, Xyleena McAninch, Tyler and Matthew Fish and Noah and Nicholas Sconce and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Phyllis Wild and Mary Ellen and Lewis Perry all of West Plaines, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Rob McAninch, a step daughter, Marilyn Johnson, two step grandchildren, Robin Johnson and Amy Williams, two brothers, Dane McAninch and Charles Robinson and a sister, Beulah Wheeler.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be at 10 am Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Jason Pierce officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
