Alberta G. Breitweiser, 86, died at 1:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville after a sudden illness.She was born in English Township in Jersey County, on May 8, 1927, one of four children born to the late Tony & Dora (Pieper) Tonsor.Alberta was committed to working and living on the family farm as a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and quilter.She was faithfully dedicated to her church and served as St. Francis Altar Society President for over 20 years, and was recently honored at this years Women of Distinction Award Dinner in Springfield.  She also served as President of the Jersey Community Hospital Auxillary for more than 20 years along with operating their gift shop.  She had a reverent passion for volunteerism and was a member of the Jersey County Home Bureau for sixty years.When her children were old enough to join 4-H, she became a leader, giving guidance to the many children of Jersey County.  In addition, she assisted on several committees at the Jersey County Fair (Exhibit Hall), and served as Parade Grand Marshal.  In continuing with her love of helping others, she assisted in organizing events with the Red Cross throughout the years.  Additional honors received were the State Volunteer Award for Home Bureau and State of Illinois Volunteer Award as serving the community that was significant to her and provided her much joy.She married Eugene Francis Breitweiser on Feb. 20, 1946 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon, and they shared 61 years together before his death on Sept. 3, 2007.Surviving are her four children & their spouses, Elvin & Pam Breitweiser of East Alton, Barbara & Tim Corbin of Lumberton, Tx., Gerald & Alice Breitweiser of Jerseyville, and Dinah Breitweiser of Jerseyville; a loving and devoted grandmother & great grandmother, she is survived by her ten grandchildren & their spouses,, Chris Breitweiser, and his fiance' Nicki Burney of Brighton, Janya & Richard Sample of Edwardsville, Angie & Keith Gentry of Yorktown, Va., Tom Corbin & Beth Corbin both of Lumberton, Tx., Lori & Matt Schultz of Jerseyville, Lisa Breitweiser of Jerseyville, Daniel & Rachel Lester of Holly Ridge, NC., Thomas Lester of St. Louis, Mo., and Megan Lester of Alton; nine great grandchildren; and a brother in law, Kenneth Liffets of Jerseyville.In addition to her parents & her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Drainer and Marie Liffets; and two brothers, Maurice Tonsor and Kenneth Tonsor.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a Prayer Service will be recited at 3:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials would be appreciated to either the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to Masses.
