Barbara Schuenke, 99, died at 9:56 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born February 24, 1914 in Staunton, IL, she was the daughter of the late Matt and Anna (Millinovich) Valent. Mrs. Schuenke retired as a clerk for Snyder’s in 1984 after 23 years of service. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton where she served on the Woman’s Alter Society and was a member of the ladies auxiliary at the Sportsman’s Club. On July 6, 1937 she married Wilfred William “Slim” Schuenke. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2006 at the age of 98. Surviving is a daughter, Mary Kaye Bushmeyer (Gary) of Quincy, IL, two sons, Gerald “Jerry” Schuenke (Anice) of Alton, Robert Schuenke (Ann) of Quincy, IL, 15 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolores Korte, a brother, Matt Valent, and three sisters, Ann Dehen, Catherine Bonner, and Frances Pernichele. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Monsignor Kenneth Steffen will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
