Homer W. Osborn, 91, died at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at his residence. Born May 5, 1922 in Alton, he was the son of David and Mary Bessie (Armes) Osborn. Mr. Osborn served as a Sergeant with the Marine Corps during WWII as a tank mechanic on Iwo Jima.

He was an avid golfer and had 11 holes-in-one. He was a member of the River of Life Family Church and retired from Clark Oil in Wood River as a machinist. On August 6, 1942 he married the former Shirley Marie Goodrich in Alton. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2011.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and David Miles of Alton, a son and daughter-in-law, Gaylen and Vicki Osborn of Godfrey, five grandchildren, Crystal Edwards (Cory), Laura Laslie (Shaun), Joseph Osborn (Julie), Lizabeth Miles-Drainer (Michael), and Samantha Miles, 11 great grandchildren, and one brother, Ralph Osborn of Prescott, Arizona. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Osborn and two sisters, Alice Meece and Opal Nance.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home, Inc. Reverend Mark Church will officiate.

Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.
