Ruth Reno

Alton |

It was a beautiful Saturday morning with the sun shining in, with family and friends, that Ruth Marilyn Reno, 87 years young, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11:20 a.m. Ruth was born in Bertrand, MO in 1926 and later married Clettis Gerald Reno “Jerry” in Alton on March 19, 1946 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. Jerry preceded her in death the year of 2008. Together they had four beautiful daughters which survive today. Marilyn (Reno) and Dr. Todd Kaleel of Tampa, FL, Sherry (Reno) and Jim Galloway of Collinsville, IL, Randy (Reno) Matney of Alton, Pam (Reno) and Brad Greer of St. Louis, MO. Miss Ruth, as so many people called her, retired from Olin Corporation after 27 years of service in 1988. Later she drove for Lamberts Floral in Alton delivering flowers, dressing up like a clown and singing to customers. Ruth had a beautiful voice and sang with the choir at Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member since the age of 4 years old. She was also a member of the senior choir going on numerous bus trips with her friends at Calvary. Ruth and Jerry were members of CMA, Christian Motorcyclists Association ministering to others that did not know the Lord. Ruth and Jerry loved camping, motorcycle riding and going out with their friends. So many people remember Ruth as a practical jokester and prayer warrior. Ruth had a love of her fellow man and woman; she would always send cards to the homebound, sick, or a person that had lost a loved one. After becoming homebound herself, Ruth would call people every day to check on them. Ruth never met a “stranger” and welcomed people into her home. She is survived by her daughters, 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and her beloved three cats (her babies) Ricky, Dudder and George. She will be greatly missed by her family and her large family of wonderful friends. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church on Washington Avenue in Alton. Pastor Andre’ Dobson and longtime friend, retired Pastor Dena Thompson will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, since Ruth had a heart towards people in need and animals, contributions should be made to Cornerstone Ministries of Calvary Baptist Church or an animal shelter of your choice. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
