Martin Bugg

Martin L. Bugg, 90, died at 1:15 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2013 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. Born August 23, 1922 in Clinton, KY, he was the son of Buren L. and Lennie Mae (Wilkins) Bugg. He moved to the Alton area in 1939. Martin served with the U.S. Army during WWII in the Southwest Pacific with the 52nd Engineers Combat Battalion from 1942-1946. He began working at the Olin Corporation in East Alton in 1942 and retired in 1984 with over 42 years of service. He was a past member of Bethel Pentecostal Church of East Alton, Abundant Life Christian Center of Godfrey and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1308 and was a member of the Olin Westerner Club. Surviving is his wife Margaret June Darnell Bugg, grandchildren, Everett Bugg, Amanda (Bugg) and husband Terry Hall, Bryan Bugg and wife Connie, Carolyn (Bugg) Harris, Marty Bugg and partner Tammy, and Scotty Bugg, 19 great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Evelyn (Bugg) Clements and brother-in-law James Clements, niece, Pamela Babcock, great nephew Christopher Babcock and nephews A.J. Berry and wife Nancy, and Jack Berry and wife Pam. He was preceded in death by his father in 1977 and his mother in 1983, a sister, Anna Jeneace Berry in 1980, his former wife Millie Bugg of 44 years passed away in 1990 and a son, Jerry Bugg passed away in 2003 and his wife Donna passed away in 2009. Gerry Childers Hunt Bugg, his second wife passed away in 2005. His grandson Dwayne Bugg passed away in 2012. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013. Reverend Jamie Hahs will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.
