Lois A. Daniels, Ph.D., 82, psychotherapist, native of Alton, Illinois, passed away peacefully in Chicago July 31, 2013.

After earning her Ph.D. in Sociology from Washington University, Lois went on to enjoy a life of helping others. She did pioneering work with battered women and women with addictions and founded three treatment centers in the St. Louis and Alton areas.

Devoted mother of Robert Winfield Daniels of Chicago; dearest sister of Richard (Diane) and Jim (Barb) Simpson; best friend of Gwyn Harvey; aunt, cousin, mentor, and friend of many.

Lois was preceded in death by husband Robert Loveren Daniels, parents Franklin Stanley Simpson and Anne Meehan Simpson, and sisters Mary Higgins and Rita Simpson.

Faithful companion of Zack the Maine Coon cat.

An ecumenical service will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery on Greenwood Lane in Godfrey, IL

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to: National Council on Alcoholism, 1723 Pennsylvania Ave., St. Louis, MO 63104.
