Alfretta M. Alford, 92, died at 10:05 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey. She was born June 7, 1921 in Minooka, IL the daughter of the late Otto and Ruth (Jones) Heap. She was a nurse for many years at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was a long time member of 12th Street Presbyterian Church, a member of the firefighters auxiliary and the Quilting Guild. She was an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the organ, she was a foster parent for many years to infants, and she loved to knit and crochet and collected dolls. On August 23, 1941 in Joliet, IL she married Myron Alford and he preceded her in death on October 2, 1981.

Surviving are six children; Ronald Alford of Chesapeake, VA, Rodney Alford and his wife Marilyn (Harris) of Alton, Richard Alford and his wife Chris (Harris) of Alton, Dennis Alford and his wife Debbie (Beebe) of Lebanon, IL, Nannette White and her Husband Steven of Oklahoma City, OK, and Susan Kessinger and her husband Rick of Bunker Hill, IL, 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, one sister; Norma Snyder of Lawrence, MS. She was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law; Kathy Alford, two brothers; Bill and Duane Heap, and one sister; Barbara Heap.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Terry Grebing to officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
