James (Jim) W. Durham, 77, passed away at 10:06 am, Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

 

He was born in Alton, IL on June 23, 1936, the son of the late Blake M. and Flossie (Haycraft) Durham.

Jim worked as an Auto Body repairman and over the road truck driver for over 50 years and served in the US Air Force. He was an avid fan and participant at Alton Dragway in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He was a member of the Fat Boys of Illinois Car Club. Jim enjoyed being around people, he never held back his feelings, and was very kind hearted.

He is survived by one sister, Patricia Draper and her husband Marvin of Fosterburg; a cousin whom he was very close with, Joyce Fleming and her husband Gary of Alton; one niece, Melissa Draper and her husband Jim Lynch of Alton; one great nephew, Daniel Draper Lynch; two cousins, Dr. Jason and Julie Fleming; and very close friends, Steve and Cathy Forbes of Alton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  

Graveside services will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Upper Alton Cemetery with Rev. George Humbert officiating. 

Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
