Joyce Irene Marsh, 96, died at 5:47 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013 at Edwardsville Nursing and Rehab Center under the care of Heartland Hospice.
Joyce was born November 6, 1916, the second oldest of 9 children of Dorsey and Bernice (Alred) McPherson. In 1940 she married Dorman Ford. They had two children; Maggie Ford of Decatur, IL, and Daniel Ford of Monongahela, PA. In middle age she attended Western College in Illinois and received her teaching degree. Most of her teaching was in California until she retired and moved to Alton. In 1999 Denzil marsh of St. Louis, MO located Joyce in Alton. They had been teenage friends in 1936 and 1937. There were married January 8, 2000 by Reverend Andre’ Dobson at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton.
Along with her husband Denzil, and her two children, she is survived by a granddaughter, Talissa Ford of Pennsylvania, and two sisters, Marlene Gailey of Rogers, Arkansas, and Ann Phillips of Hope, Alaska. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ed, Sam, Paul, and Dean McPherson, and two sisters, Ruth McPherson and Mary Beth Heil.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Manchester Cemetery in Manchester, IL. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
