Michael DeSherlia

Michael R. DeSherlia, age 63, passed away Sunday December 2, 2012 at 8:07 pm with his family by his side.

He was born on August 1, 1949 the son of the late Paul DeSherlia and Nina (Wallace) DeSherlia-Ottersburg.

Mike married Janet Kirsch on August 21, 1981 in Alton.  She survives.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He was a tool crib assistant in the machine shop of Owens IL Glass Company and retired in 2006.  Mike was also in management at Central Hardware for 27 years. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.

Mike is survived by his wife Janet (Kirsch) DeSherlia of Alton; three children Julie and her spouse Brian Tinnon of South Roxana, Amy Unterbrink of Bethalto, Bryan DeSherlia of Alton; a step-daughter, Gretchen Caruthers of Alton; six grandchildren, Nicholas Clark and Stephanie Clark, Zackary Moore, Meghan and Jacob Unterbrink, Kyle Unterbrink; one great granddaughter, Addison Clark; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sue DeSherlia of Alton, two sisters Tina Price of Indiana and Donna (DeSherlia) Heil of Alton, a step-sister, Jackie Hill and her husband, Jim of Hardin; two step brothers, Steve DeSherlia of Wyoming, Doug DeSherlia of Tennessee, a step-sister, Renee Cunningham of Florida, mother-in-law, Shirley Dublo of Alton, a brother-in-law, Jim Kirsch of Oxford, MS, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue and Leonard Gonzales of Godfrey,  and several Aunts and Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm Wednesday December 5, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am Thursday December 6, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Fr. Steve Pohlman celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey with military rites being conducted by the Alton VFW Post 1308.

Memorials may be directed to the ALS Foundation of St. Louis.
