Homer Dale Barrett
AGE: 62
BIRTH: May 7, 1950 in Dow, Illinois
DIED: 3:15 a.m. Sunday Dec. 2, 2012 at his home
PARENTS: Fred “Abe” & Mary Ann (Nolan) Barrett (both deceased)
MARRIED: Cynthia R. Hoyt
DATE & PLACE: January 15, 1972 in Jerseyville
OCCUPATION: Boilermaker, Machinist, Welder, Gunsmith and Certified Federal Welding Inspector. Homer’s 40 years of marriage to Cindi resulted in a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love. He will also be remembered for his Faith in God, unwavering and infinite love for his family, innumerable friends and generous spirit. He enjoyed competitive and recreational firearms, fishing with his grandchildren, and cooking and sharing meals with his family, friends and church. Homer was gifted in working with metal and there were few things, regardless of size or complexity, Homer could not fix or craft with his own self-reliant innovation. If an object was beyond his considerable skill to mend, or a replacement that met his exacting standards could not be obtained, he would more often than not simply design and fabricate what he needed. He taught his children to take pride in their work, and they have succeeded in life because of the work ethic and high standards of expectation he instilled in them. Such attributes illustrate Homer’s perseverance, ingenuity, generosity, and lifelong desire to learn.
