Godfrey |

Evelyn M. (Ursprung) Green, 88, passed away at 10:55 am on Friday, June 29, 2012 at her home while under the care of BJC Hospice.

She was born in Bethalto, the daughter of John and Marie (Bantz) Ursprung on July 6, 1923.  She graduated from Bethalto (3 Year) High School in 1940, then Alton High School in 1941.

She married Emmett J. Green, June 26, 1946; was married 57 years prior to his death March 19, 2003.

Evelyn was employed as a secretary at Olin Corporation for 41 years, retiring in 1982.  She loved bowling, golf, dancing, bridge and all card games during her lifetime.  During 1967-1982 her flower hobbies developed into “art and craft shows”, with dried flowers, oils and watercolors, matting and framing.  These hobbies were by-passed when she and her husband spent six months in Florida.

She was baptized, confirmed and married in the Wood River U.C.C. Evangelical Church, where she and her husband sang in the choir for many years.

During the early 1950’s she was president of the Gamma Upsilon Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi in Alton.  When living in Moro, she became president of Moro Women’s Club for four years.  Later years, after retirement, she was secretary and president of golf leagues, as she was an avid golfer.  She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Alton.  After moving to Godfrey in 1968, she took up arts, crafts, golfing, friends and flowers.

Her only sibling was Carl J. Ursprung, who preceded her in death February 6, 2006.  She had no children, but many nieces and nephews: Carla Weil in Muskogee, OK, Charles and JoAnn Ursprung, Cay Ursprung and Jim Tacus, Craig and Linda Ursprung all of Edwardsville, Curt Ursprung of Goreville, IL, Cathy Ursprung of Phoenix; also her favorite niece-in-law, Cathy and Greg Fitz of Wales, MI.  She loved many close cousins and very dear friends

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Monday at St. John’s U.C.C. in Wood River with Pastor Mike Southcombe officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto beside her late husband.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s U.C.C. in Wood River (6th and Penning) or the American Heart Association.
