Leona Saboff

Leona R. Saboff, age 88, of Edwardsville, Illinois died at 11:01 a.m. Tuesday, March 06, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton, Illinois.

Leona was born November 13, 1923, in Brussels, Illinois, daughter of the late Henry H. & Mary (Vogel) Hendricks. She was a retired registered nurse having worked at Staunton Community Hospital.  Leona graduated from Brussels High School in 1942 as valedictorian.  She graduated from nursing from St. Elizabeth’s in Granite City in 1945.  Leona received her certification in Springfield, Illinois in September of 1945. Leona married Milan M. Saboff on October 6, 1945, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brussels, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on July 9, 1995. 

Leona is survived by 2 sons, Michael M. Saboff & his wife Sheryl of Edwardsville and Paul G. Saboff & his wife Darla of Wood River; 5 daughters, Carol M. Bridges & husband Terry of Edwardsville, Sandra K. Cunningham & husband Larry of Glen Carbon, Kathryn Farrell of Glen Carbon, Martha Saboff Shindel & husband Richard of Edwardsville, and Elaine Schreier of Bethalto; 16 grandchildren, Keith, Theresa, Jeff, Tim, Daven, Julie, Ben, Michelle, Scott, Nathan, Dan, Chris, Caroline, Regina, Steven, & Jessica; and 20 Great Grandchildren.  Leona was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Henry Jr., Paul Eugene, & Charles Robert Hendricks and 2 sisters, Bernice Hendricks and Gertrude Jacobs. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville.  Her family was her life.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home.  A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at St. Boniface Catholic Church Fr. Jeff Goeckner officiating. Interment will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Edwardsville. Family requests memorials to St. Boniface Church or the American Heart Association.
