Lester “Les” “Sonny” J. Ogle, Jr. 71, passed away at 11:10 am on Friday, January 27, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on June 19, 1940 in Alton, Illinois, the son of Lester J. and Alice M. (Bowman) Ogle, Sr.
He married Mary L. Burtman on August 24, 1996 in Godfrey. She survives.
Les worked as a truck foreman for ABC in St. Louis, MO for 18 years, retiring in 2004. He then went to work as a fork lift operator at UTI in Granite City for seven years. He was a member of the Alton Moose Lodge. Each year he helped the children make shoe boxes to give to Open Door Fellowship. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, the St. Louis Cardinals, barbequing, and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kathy Ogle of Marthasville, MO; a daughter and son-in-law, Sabra and Mark Beatty of Bethalto; his stepchildren, Cindy Mitcham of Alton, Lisa Blackwell of Alton, Tarron Blackwell of Wichita, Kansas, Melinda Gibson of Godfrey, Billy Parnell of Godfrey, Crystal Ridlon of Bloomington, IN; two grandchildren, Garrick Ogle and Ben Beatty; nineteen step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Alice and Dan Sinclair of Crossville, TN, Marge Kirby of Bethalto, Jean Ogle of Wood River and Wanda and Gary Bourland of Bethalto; a brother, Carl Ogle of Alton and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Carolyn Burtman.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the funeral home.
