MILITARY: As a young boy, Joe always wanted to be a “Fighting Marine”, and that dream became reality when he enlisted on August 5, 1942. He attended eight weeks of boot camp at the Marine Corp. Base in San Diego, California. Joe then served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre at Bauganville and Guam. Total time served in the military was 3 years, 2 months and 13 days. Joe was wounded on Guam and was awarded the Purple Heart, he was then discharged on October 17, 1945.
MEMBERSHIP: Chairman of The Jersey County War Memorial, VFW Post #4528, Purple Heart Assoc. and Jerseyville First Baptist Church
OCCUPATION: Joe graduated from Jersey Township High School in 1939. He worked at the International Shoe Factory for 3 years before serving the United States Marine Corp., upon returning home from serving, He worked for 15 years at Olin in Alton, he later became a Self-Employed Painter First Class
