Roger Moore

Roger Lee Moore,  76, passed away at 5:05 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care in Jerseyville after several months of declining health.Roger was born in Fidelity Township, Jersey County, IL on Feb. 16, 1935, and was the youngest of three sons born to the late Eldon Edgar & Catherine (Monk) Moore.He proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corp., and lived each day with the motto, "once a Marine, always a Marine".Roger grew up on the family farm and farming played a huge role his entire life.  He also spent many years with a paint brush in his hand and gave new life to many of your homes through the years.  He was good at what he did and took pride in doing a job right the first time.  His work was his best advertisement, and backed up the fact that he was a hard working man with multiple talents.He married the former Linda Falter on April 30, 1977 in Jerseyville, and she survives.Also surviving are four children & a daughter in law, Dwight & Vicki Moore of Brighton, his twin daughters, Brenda Skinner and Glenda Gray both of Jerseyville, and Lorne Moore of Medora;  five grandchildren, Kevin, and his wife, Sarah Dossett of Jerseyville, Shannon Moore of Alton, Jennifer Gray of Milwaukee, Wi., Kimberly Gray of Jerseyville and Krystal Skinner of Jerseyville; two great grandchildren, Lucy & Chloe Dossett of Jerseyville;  five step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; a brother, John A. Moore of Marine; three stepchildren, Lonnie & Judy Howard of Frankford, De., Lindel Howard of Texas, and Lynn & Dwayne Hallman of Medora; as well as five nephews and a niece, Bob (Donna) Moore, Cliff (M.J.) Moore, David, Tim, and Jeff Moore, and Patty (Denny) Milner; as well as numerous cousins and lifelong friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Skinner; a brother, Eldon Earl Moore; and a sister in law, Spriggy Moore.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Visitation will continue from 10 a.m., Tuesday until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., at the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville.  Rev. Ted Engelsdorfer and Rob Cleeton will officiate.He will be buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, where the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 will conduct military honors.Memorials may be given to the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville, the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Medora, or to the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 color guard.
