Shirley Dewey

Shirley Dewey, 80, died at 4:28 a.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011 at VIP Manor in Wood River.  Born July 28, 1930 in Alton, she was the daughter of Edwin John and Anna Mae (West) Pelot. 

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Godfrey.  On July 3, 1951 in Harrison, Arkansas she married Vern Dewey.  They were married for time and eternity at the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 5, 1960. 

Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Anne Sudweeks and her husband Bryan of Provo, Utah and Patricia Dell Trent and her husband Phillip of Cary, NC, three sons, John Lee Dewey and his wife Valerie of Denver, CO, Thomas Dale Dewey and his wife Shelly of Gillespie, and Richard William Dewey and his wife Debra of Orem, Utah, 19 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one brother, Edwin William Pelot and his wife Pat of Minnesota, and one sister, Ruth Leona Long and her husband Richard of Godfrey. 

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 6500 Humbert Road in Godfrey. Bishop David Hargiss will officiate.  Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Missionary Fund.
