Mary Louise Pohlman, 87, died at 10:50 a.m., Monday, February 28, 2011 at St. Clare's Hospital in Alton, after a period of declining health. She was born in Godfrey on July 15, 1923, a daughter of the late George & Bessie (Watson) Tolle. She graduated from Alton Senior High School, and in her early years, she had been employed as a waitress at Pere Marquette Lodge in Grafton, but after her marriage to William H. Pohlman on Aug. 5, 1950, she has devoted herself and her life to her family. Bill & Mary had been residents of Grafton for many years, where they were both active and devoted members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Mary being active in the Altar Society.Surviving are her husband of 60 years, William Pohlman; five daughters & sons in laws, Marianne & Bill Webster of Medora, Marty & Chuck Johnson of Illiopolis, Pat & Mike Carmean of Godfrey, Peg & Andy Balch of Chesterfield, Mo., and Nancy Bowman of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren & their spouses, Matt (Jeannie) Webster, Mark Webster, Amy (Joe) Johnson, Scott Johnson, Ryan  and Mallory Carmean, Kristen, Allison and Brian Balch, and Carrie Cox; six great grandchildren, Dylan Ramsey, Luke Webster, Miles Johnson, Trevor, Trenton, and Tanner Cox; a brother & sister in law, James & Ann Tolle of Godfrey; two sisters & brothers in law, Helen & Guy Hickerson of Alton, and Shirley and Gene Warner of Godfrey.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, George Bernard Pohlman, and her 14 year old son, William Joseph Pohlman who died Aug. 4, 1965; a brother, George Tolle; and four sisters, Clara Beard, Mina Burns, Alma DeSherlia, Fern Depper.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Visitaiton willl continue from 10 a.m. Friday until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton.  Father Patrick Gibbons will officiate.Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the St. Patrick's Catholic Church Altar Society or to Masses.
