Robert Groves

Robert Lee Groves, 77, was promoted to Heaven and lovingly met by his Savior on February 27, 2011 at 5:20 p.m. Born June 11, 1933 in Greene County, he was a son of Charles B. and Tempa M. (Williams) Groves. He and the former JoAnn Naylor were united in marriage in Alton on July 15, 1977. To this union was born one much loved son, Daniel E. Groves. Bob worked for Olin Corporation, retiring in 1997 after 45 years of service. The U.S. Army veteran served from 1953-1955 and was a member of the Grafton America Legion Post #648. He was also a proud member of Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton.
In addition to his wife, and son, Daniel of Wood River, he is survived by sons Bobby Groves of Grafton and Larry Groves of Mt. Top, Penn.; his daughter, Peggy of Grafton; a sister, Mary Bailey of Jerseyville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be loved and forever missed by a special 13 year old granddaughter, Audrey Groves. They spent many hours together, and she called him her “best Palzie-Walzie”. Theirs was a special bond of unconditional love for each other. Mason Daniel Groves, 4, was loved in the very same way. He will also be missed by grandchildren David, Dusty, Christopher and Leah, and great grandchildren Logan, Landon and Josie. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Russell and Lindell; and one sister, Dorothy Young.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3 at Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton. Reverend David Burman will officiate.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery. Military honors will be performed at the cemetery by Alton VFW Post #1308
