Dorothy Hibbs, 81, our loving mother went to be with the Lord peacefully at 9:32 am Monday, June 21, 2010 at Eldercare of Alton.
She was born on June 10, 1929 in Binkley, Arkansas, the daughter of Porter & Elna Ann (Foster) Wooten.
She married Earl Hibbs Sr. on November 15, 1946 in Alton. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2009.
She worked at Alton Memorial Hospital for several years as a cook and loved gardening and her roses.
She is survived by his eight children and their spouses, Dorothy Lamkin and her companion, Greg Moore of Wood River, Gary & Jane Hibbs of Cottage Hills, William & Alice Hibbs of Bethalto, Earl C. Hibbs Jr. of Cottage Hills, Michael Hibbs of Cottage Hills, Pamela & Dennis Tucker of Bethalto, Jeffrey Hibbs of Cottage Hills and Jacqueline Hibbs & her companion, Rick of Wood River; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four sisters and three and two brothers, Thelma Cook, Joann Vanderburg, and Jerry Wooten, Carol Scroggins, John Wooten, and Melba Kronable; and many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Porter Wooten Jr., Jim Wooten, and Ricky Wooten.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be at 1 pm on Friday, June 25, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Alta Vaughn officiating.
Burial will be at Short Cemetery in Cottage Hills.
Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
