Edward "Gene" Stewart, 73, died at 2:57 a.m. Sunday, June 20, 2010 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Born December 28, 1936 in Macomb, IL, he was the son of Raymond E. "Bud" and Mary F. (Waymack) Stewart. He retired as a journeyman machinist for Owens Illinois Glass in Godfrey after 42 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Trap Shooters Association. He enjoyed playing baseball in younger days and also enjoyed golf, bow hunting and his bowling leagues.
He married Ruth A. Curry. She preceded him in death. On September 5, 1964 in Alton, he married Marion Jeffress. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Sherry Klose and Deon Vinyard of Greenfield, IL, Gail Stewart and Lonnie Banks of Godfrey and Kelly Healey and her husband Terry of Brighton, two sons, Wayne Stewart and his wife Julie of Bethalto and Scott Stewart and his wife Adrionna of Houston, TX, nine grandchildren, Angela Reathaford, Erich and Alyssa Klose, Ryan Ottwell, Shane, Travis and Taylor Healey, Adam and Justin Stewart and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Ottwell.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Wednesday. Reverend Tim Naylor will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
