Donna K. Shannon, age 80, passed away peacefully at 5:25 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA.
She was born on September 7, 1929, in St. Louis, MO to the late Walter R. Knoll and Evelyn (Sappington) Knoll.
She married Thomas J. Shannon on January 31, 1953 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on September 25, 2006.
Donna was a devoted school teacher in the Alton district for over 30 years, touching many young lives. She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Alton, IL; the Illinois Retired Teachers Association; the OASIS Center of Alton; and Delta Gamma social sorority in Columbia, MO. She was an exceptional artist, who enjoyed showing off her talent in needle point, sewing, knitting, wood working and painting. She was also a fantastic cook and showed it in many ways in the foods she prepared for her family and friends. Donna loved people and had a love for life that showed through her exceptional sense of humor and wit. She enjoyed singing and rhyming and anything musical. She was an extraordinary Mother, Friend, and co-heart.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Michael Dailey of Bettendorf, IA; a beloved grand daughter, Shannon Dailey; her brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Gail Knoll, St. Louis, MO; and her three nephews and their families.
A special thank you to the Silvercrest /Garner Farms family; to her wonderful friends; and a loving thank you to the staff of Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their care and compassion…they are truly angels here on Earth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son, Daniel T. Shannon.
Memorial visitation will be at 1:30 p.m., June 19, 2010 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Alton, IL with the Rev. Brett Hendrickson officiating.
Burial will be private at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
