Wm. Cook

Moro |

Wm. “Truman” Cook, 85, of Moro, left his mortal body behind and entered into eternity at home with his family by his side and BJC Hospice providing comfort and support on Saturday June 12, 2010 at 12:15 pm.

He was born on March 20, 1925 in Farmington, MO to Wm. Frederick and Polly Elizabeth (Faddler) Cook.

He married the former Madeline (Clymer) Cook on July 25, 1956 in East Alton, IL and she survives as well as their children, a daughter and son-in-law, Susan & Paul Triplett of Dorsey, and a son, Greg Cook of Bethalto; grandchildren include, Brandon Triplett of Dorsey, Chris & Tia Triplett of St. Mary’s GA, Emily Cook and Heather Allen, both of Bethalto; six great grandsons, Dylan, Ryan and Luke Triplett, A.J. and Hunter Allen and Parker Jennings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bud and Boose Cook; two sisters, Hazel Williamson and Margie Synders.

He served his country during WWII with the 4th Division of the Marines from 1943-1945 in both the Marshall Islands and Okinawa.

He was an owner/operator of four Shell Stations for several years; Chick’s in East Alton, Avenue Shell in Wood River, Godfrey Shell and Bethalto Shell.

He joined Carpenters Local 377 in 1959 and recently received his 50 yr. Gold Anniversary Award.

He attended the local areas First Church of God since 1981. He was a master gardener, a mighty hunter, as well as a skilled carpenter/millwright.

But most of all he will be remembered by his family as a loving, father, devoted grandpa and a doting great grandpa and will be greatly missed.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Tuesday June 15, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto where funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday June 16, 2010 with Brother Jim Childers of Mason, OH officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308.
