Jason Holyfield

Jason Michael Holyfield, 18, died at 11:58 p.m., Friday, June 4, 2010 at his residence from injuries sustained in a house fire.

He was born in Alton on Sept.15, 1991, the son of Roger Dale Holyfield Sr. and Cynthia Gentry.

He attended Jersey Community High School, and has always wanted to work as a carpenter like his father, and was currently working as a concrete laborer for Tyler Wallace.  Jason enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and loved his niece Kelsey, and died trying his best to protect her.

Surviving are his mother, Cynthia Gentry of Jerseyville; a brother & sister in law, John David & Jamie Lyons Jr. of Jerseyville; his grandparents, Rayburn & Margaret Holyfield of Grafton; aunts & uncles, Eric & Jennifer Gentry of Godfrey, Deborah & Jim Beasley of Grafton, Ellen & Mack Sitzes of Cisne, Amy & Darren Noel of LaPlata, Md., and Kay Holyfield of Alton; along with numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Dale Holyfield Sr.; a brother, Roger Dale Holyfield Jr.; grandmother, Barbara L. Gentry; and an uncle, Randall Holyfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday.  Rev. David Brown will officiate.

Burial will be in the Noble Cemetery in Otterville.

Memorials may be given to the family in care of the funeral home.
