William E. Reed, 82, passed away at 8:15pam on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at home with his family by his side.



He was born on December 2, 1927 in Elizabethtown, IL, the son of James T. & Florence (Dale) Reed.


He married Loretta Love in January 1953 in Wood River, IL. She survives.



He served his country in the U.S. Army two terms, serving in Japan and the Korean War. He was a crane operator at Laclede Steel for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Madison County Beagle Club. He enjoyed gardening, camping and has traveled and vacationed to almost all fifty states. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.



In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Donna McEwen of Edwardsville; a son, Ronald Reed of Brighton; four grandchildren and their spouses, Misty & Kerry Unthank, Josh & Autumn Reed, Ashley & Paul Lobos and Justin Reed; nine great grandchildren, Tylor, Hunter, Josie, Mason, Lincoln, Madison, Logan, Austin and Ashton; a sister, Dorothy Rendleman of Elizabethtown, IL; a brother & sister-in-law, Chris & Millie Reed of Santa Anna, CA and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Lillian Moore, Corina Gowins and Mary Vinyard, his brothers, James Earlene, Tom, Russell & Bobby Reed.

Cremation rites were accorded. A graveside memorial service will be on June 12, 2010 at 2 pm at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Elizabethtown, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to Faith Fellowship Church in Fosterburg.
