Valentine Francis Kallal, 92, died at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 14, 2010 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton.

He was born in Jerseyville on Feb. 13, 1918, one of 13 children born to the late Joseph Victor "J.V." and Theresa (Kroupa) Kallal.Val has been engaged in farming his entire life, and actually was born on the same property that he felt privliged to live and work his entire life on.  He was a graduate of Jersey Township High School, and was a loyal member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.He married the former Rosie Rostello on Nov. 29, 1952 at St. Francis and together they shared 40 years together before her death on May 14, 1993.  He then married Jean (Shivers) Pistorius Gorman on July 12, 1996 at St. Francis, and were blessed with 13 years before her death on Aug. 16, 2009.Val is survived by Jeans children & their spouses, Mark Pistorius of Colo, Iowa, Stephen & Mary Pistorius of Granite City, Kurt & Eve Pistorius of Centennial, Co., Carol & Gary Robeen of Hardin, Dianna & Cliff Bigelow of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Eric & Lisa Pistorius of Jerseyville, Laurie & David Petras of Alton, and Lisa & Joe Scott of Edwardsville,  18 Grandchidren ; and one great grandchildren; one sister, RosaLee Hayes of St. Louis, Mo.; three brothers, Victor Kallal of Greenville, David Kallal of Dunkirk, Md., and Albert Kallal of Jerseyville.He is also survived by many loving nieces & nephews, including locally, Henry & Marie Kallal and Harold & Terrie Kallal all of Jerseyville.In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Lawrence & Leo Kallal; and four sisters, Agnes Quest, Mary Major, Ann Kallal, and Genevieve Entwistle.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools of Jerseyville or to masses.
