Ruby Schaberg

Godfrey |

Ruby Irene Schaberg, 73, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2010 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehab.

Born January 31, 1937 in Winchester, IL, she was the 5child of Floyd and Rowena Stice. She married Ed Schaberg on June 20, 1959.

She lived in Godfrey, IL all her life. She worked at Millers Mutual but gave up her career to be a full time wife and mother. She gave birth to her daughter Teri Ann on January 18, 1962 and then 11 years later on September 28, 1973 to her son Timothy Todd. Ruby knew no strangers and touched many lives in her 73 years of life. Her journey was to help anyone that would let her. After many years of not understanding why people played golf she took up the sport and it became the joy of her life. She met and had many special friends while enjoying the game. In 1995 she finally got a hole in one, before her husband, which she was very proud of. Even in her last year while battling cancer she still helped out with keeping stats as much as she could. Her other point of interest was playing bingo of which she spent many Sunday nights enjoying. And she was very lucky and had a tendency to win.

Her biggest joy in life was her family, she treasured that the most. She always knew we needed her love and guidance before we did. And her grandchildren; Matthew, Nicholas, Jack and Madison meant everything to her. They could do no wrong in her eyes and she was very proud of each an every one of them. She enjoyed being a soccer mom and grandma. Ruby found out she had colon cancer on March 16, 2009, survived major surgery and then started her journey of fighting the disease. She completed her first round of chemo treatments in November, but in December the cancer started coming back, so bravely, she started round two of chemo in January of 2010. However, in the past year she was able to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary in Maui Hawaii with her family, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also made it to her annual Christmas shopping sprees down to the Lake of the Ozarks with her daughter, Teri and daughter-in-law, Blythe as well as made it to Orlando to watch her grandson play a soccer tournament in Disney World. She lived, laughed and loved the final year until losing her battle with cancer on May 17, 2010.

Ruby is survived by her husband Ed, daughter Teri, son-in-law Matthew, grandchildren Matt and Nick of Godfrey, IL her son, Timothy, daughter-in-law, Blythe, grandchildren, Jack and Madison of Denver, CO; her brothers, Dick Stice and Jack Stice and sisters, Margaret Schwegel, Mary Jane Mihalich and Frieda Eyster and their families. Sharing our celebration of her life with Ruby today are her parents, Floyd and Rowena Stice, her sister Dorothy Moore and brothers, Bob Stice, Wayne Stice and Joe Stice.
