George E. King Jr., 83, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born January 27, 1927 in Alton, he was the son of George E. and Mina King Sr.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from CBW Trucking Company in Roxana as an over the road truck driver and was the owner of the former KTI Towing in Brighton. He was a loyal Cardinal baseball fan. He was an avid golfer and bowler and was on the senior bowling tour with Dick Weber, Earl Anthony and others.

Surviving is his companion of 23 years, Marye Plumb and children, Ricky Plumb and wife Michelle of Godfrey, Vicki Smith of Bethalto and Tammy Williams and husband Nick of Bethalto, grandchildren, Brooke Arnel and husband Chris of Roxana, Matt Rodgers and wife Angie of Wood River, T.J. and Hunter Gaffney of Brighton, Alexis Gaffney, Rylee Plumb and Amelia Plumb all of Godfrey and Mackenzie and Nicholas Williams of Bethalto and Meghan Tendick, four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Mackenzie and Chase Arnel and Addison Gaffney and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Naomi.

Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday. Reverend John Tennyson and Reverend Jeff Allsman will officiate. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
