Vernon Michelmann, 85, passed away at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010 at his home.
Born in St. Louis on Jan. 4, 1925, he was the son of Alfred and Vera (Meyer) Michelmann.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served from Jan. 5, 1943 to Apr. 12, 1946.
He married Mary Catherine Collier Aug. 9, 1947 in St. Charles, Mo. She passed away Dec. 8, 1992.
He retired in 1988 as a manager at Fisca Oil Service Station after 45 years. He then worked for 10 years as a security guard for Pinkerton, retiring in 1998.
Survivors include four daughters, Verna L. (Gary) Grim of St. Peters, Mo., Linda (Gary) Hill of Bethalto, Judy (Larry) Beneze and Molly Wolfe, all of Wood River; three sons, Vernon J. Michelmann, Leo Michelmann, and John Michelmann, all of Godfrey; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mary Beth Wheatley.
Visitation will be Friday, Apr. 30 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights from 9 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m. Pastor Kenny Buttrey will officiate.
Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
