Jean Floss Paul, 86, died at Eunice Smith Nursing Home on April 24, 2010.
She was the daughter of Arthur L. Floss and Gertrude (Duggan) Floss. She was born May 26, 1923 in Alton. Jean was educated in the Alton schools and graduated from SIUE. She was employed with the Alton School System and retired from SIUE. Jean was active in various organizations including Alton Area Landmarks, Alton Historical Society, League of Women Voters, Junior Service League, served on the Board of Summers-Port Inc, Board of Zeta Beta Psi, PTA Council, First Methodist Church, Madison County Historical Society, and was a member of the PEO. Growing up, Jean spent her summers at Chautauqua and loved to roam the bluffs on her favorite horse.
Surviving is a son, John P. Paul of Lake Winnebago, MO and a daughter, Georgeanne Paul of Helena, MT; five grandchildren, Troy Paul, Chris Paul, Kathryn Grote, Allison Dale-Riddle, Mia Crivello; and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Ann Schumacher of Boulder, CO, a brother, George A. Floss of Iowa City IA, several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She is survived also by several lifelong friends.
Visitation will be at Gent Funeral Home on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 11:00 a.m.- 1:30 pm and a private burial service will follow.
