Katherine "Kitty" Weed, 80, formerly of Grafton, died at 12:50 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2010 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton.

A native of Pennsylvania, she was born on Jan. 22, 1930 in Exeter, Pa, and was the daughter of the late Leonard & Josephine (Kurchasky) Janiszewski. She married Robert Weed on Dec. 31, 1946 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and they moved to Grafton a year later where they made their home and raised their family for many years.  While her children were young, Kitty was a homemaker and loving wife & mother.  She later became active in the Grafton American Legion, where she served as a bartender and was former president of the Ladies Auxillary.  She was most recently employed as a housekeeper at the Tara Point Inn in Grafton.She loved to crotchet, play bingo, garden, collect dolls, and was exceptional at baking, and was well known for her homemade breads.Surviving are two daughters & sons in law, Pamela "Susie" & Gary Baldwin and Jeri & Terry Brauer all of Wood River; two sons, Forrest Weed of Marion and William Weed of Alton; nine grandchildren, Robert III, Brent, Paul, Aimiee, Holly, Forrest, Matthew, Stephanie and Phillip; 16 Great Grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Janiszewski of Exter, Pa., and Leonard Janiszewski of Mississippi; four sisters, Lucille Chapman, Josephine Kline and Rosalie Hunlock all of Pennsylvania, and Lorraine Nash of West Covina, Ca.; and a multitude of neices and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Weed on Sept 15, 1986; two sons, Robert Weed Jr. in 1988; and Fred A. Weed on Sept. 18, 1990; one brother, Edward Janiszewski; and four sisters, Tekla Janiszewski, Mary Kudracko, Teresa Brosso, and Genevieve Van Louvender.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday at the St. Patricks Catholic Church in Grafton, with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.Burial will be in the Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.Memorials may be given to the Cardinal Glennon Childrens Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
