William McDonald

William O. McDonald, age 95, passed away at 12:34 pm, Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville, IL.

He was born on January 30, 1915 in Kaskaskia Illinois to William Perry and Laura Belle (Voelker) McDonald.

He married Eva Giltner on September 16, 1950 at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1997.

William served as a flight officer in the U.S. Army Air Corp with many months flying the "HUMP" in Burma, India and China. He graduated with a Bachelor Degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Il. He was a flight instructor and then went to work for McDonnell Douglas, retiring in 1980. He was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and a member of the Hump Pilots Association.

William is survived by his brother, Paul McDonald of Chicago, Illinois as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife and his sisters, Eulah Link, Ina Thompson, Alma Milbert, Ellena Snowdell and brothers: Clyde, Waldo and Andrew.

Visitation will be from 9am to until time of service at 11:00 am Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, with burial following in Upper Alton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to College Avenue Presbyterian Church or Oasis Women’s Shelter in Alton.
