Paul G. Schultze, 69, died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital with his family at his side. He was born on April 11, 1940 at home in Troy, IL, to John Charles Sr. and Helen Colleen (Schroeppel) Schultze.

He is the fifth child of nine children born to his parents. He and the former Vera Jeanetta Bock were married on May 18, 1963 at the North Alton Southern Baptist Church in Alton, IL. They were married for over 46 years.

At the age of 16 he started his theatre career as a manager at the Troy Theatre in Troy, IL. He worked for several theatre chains including his last with Wehrenberg Theatres in St. Louis, Mo, as manager and district manager for 20 years. Throughout those years he was privileged to have met many famous stars, senators, and governors, and he and his wife having attended a few Gubernatorial balls in Jefferson City, Mo. One of his cherished memories was he and his wife being invited to sit and talk with the retired President Harry S. Truman in his library at the Harry S. Truman Library in Independence, MO., where he and his wife visited on their honeymoon. He also worked at AAA Insurance, Morgan Buildings and Spas and Piasa Pantry. He was an independent newspaper hauler with the Alton Telegraph for 10 years and he also worked at the Alton Belle Casino as a shuttle bus driver and in the guest relations Department where he retired in 2002. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey, IL, the Alton Wood River Sportsmen Club in Godfrey, IL, and the Eagles Lodge FOE No 254 in Alton, IL.

He enjoyed fishing, reading, his RV, and most important, his family and friends. In his youth he played the trumpet and as an adult, the harmonica. He was very much a "people person."

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tamara and her husband Gary L. Neese Jr. of Godfrey, two sons; Shane and his wife Lisa of Alton, and Shawn and his wife Kristy of Godfrey, six grandchildren; Emarey Paige and Taylor Brooke Neese of Godfrey, Katherine Niccole and Darrian Michael Schultze of Alton, Alec Christian and Justin Chase Schultze and a step granddaughter; Ashley Nicole Massingill all of Godfrey. Three brothers; John C. (Betty) Schultze. Jr. of Ashley, IL, James A. (Rosemary) Schultze of Staunton, IL, Joseph F. (Karen) Schultze of St. Jacob, IL. Two sisters; Mary E. Loyet of Carrollton, IL and Patricia A. Hinton of Alhambra, IL, and by 11 nephews, 7 nieces, other great nieces and nephews, his in-laws, Ronald E. and Myrtle Bock, Sr. of Wilsonville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Richard, two sisters; Jean (Schultze) Wallace and Lois (Schultze) Hughes.

Visitation will be Monday, April 5, 2010 from 4:00-9:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Kenneth Tegtmeier to officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, IL.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, and American Cancer Association.
