George J. McGraw, 80, passed away at 3:26 pm Wednesday March 31, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton.
He was born on July 11, 1929 in Wood River, IL and raised in the Cairo, IL area; he is the son of Alfred & Marion (Wilbur) McGraw
He married Marjorie Jun on November 18, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. She survives.
He worked at Owens Illinois Glass Manufacturing as a machinist and retired in 1993 after 43 years of service. He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton, a former member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Alton and served his country in the Navy.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughter, Kathleen DiPaolo of Alton; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Pat McGraw of Washington, IL; a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia & Bob Houchens of Godfrey; a son, David McGraw of St. Louis, MO; nine grandchildren, Kyle & Katie DiPaolo of Alton, Andrew & Matthew McGraw of Washington, IL, Emily, Anna, and Taylor Houchens of Godfrey, Brian McGraw of Washington, DC and Ellen McGraw of St. Louis, MO; and one great grandson, Nicholas DiPaolo of Alton.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth & Jesse Eidson and a son-in-law, Mike DiPaolo.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm Monday April 5, 2010 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5:00 pm Monday April 5, 2010 with Fr. Delix Michel S.S.L. celebrating.
Cremation will follow.
Inurnment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be made to Saints Peter & Paul Catholic School or Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association or Masses.
