Ralph Smith

Ralph Michael "Mike" Smith, 73, passed away Monday, March 22, 2010 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born Dec. 22, 1936 in East Alton, he was the son of J. Ralph and Marguerett (Ruyle) Smith.

He worked as a bricklayer for Bricklayers Local #8 for 20 years, and the for Granite City Steel for 30 years. He retired in 2000.

On Sept. 27, 1957, he married Barbara L. McCleland in East Alton. She survives.

A life member of the NRA, he also remained a member of the Bricklayers Local #8.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Dawn Smith Watt of Greenview, Ill.; two sons, Jeff Smith of Brighton and Steven Smith of Wilsonville, Ill.; 6 grandchildren, Tony Gene, David Michael, Makala, Jeff, Dani and Derek; and 2 great grandchildren, Sammy and Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Martha Pelhank, Mary Right, and Carolyn Smith.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 25 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where Rev. Daryl Fansler will officiate services at 10 a.m. Friday, March 26.

Interment will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
