BETTY McKENNEY BRATTENJERSEYVILLE-  Betty Anne McKenney Bratten, 62, died at 7:03 p.m., Saturday, March 20, 2010 surrounded by her family while under the care of hospice at the home of her mother.She was born at home in Jerseyville on Jan. 2, 1948, one of four children born to Curtis & Ada (Shaw) Wilkinson.Betty attended cosmetology school, and worked as a beautician at Garnet's Chateu in Jerseyville for a short time, and also worked at the White Spot as a grill cook.  She has been employed by the Jersey Community Unit School District #100 as a bus driver retiring at the beginning of this year after 34 years of service.She first married James "Sonny" McKenney and together they were the parents of three children; two sons &  a daughter.  He was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident at the age of 29 on Aug. 6, 1977.  She later married Samuel Bratten on Feb. 4, 2006 at the Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville.In addition to being a loving mother, grandmother & daughter, she enjoyed cooking, painting, anything to do with crafts, and was alos known to not be afraid to drive a stockcar at the Godfrey Speedway if given the opportunity.Surviving are her husband, Samuel Bratten; her mother, Ada Wilkinson Short of Jerseyville; two sons & a daughter in law, Christopher McKenney  and Brian & Kathy McKenney all of Jerseyville; a daughter & son in law, Leigh & Steven Beran of Godfrey: 10 Grandchildren; her stepchildren & their spouses, Stephen & Lisa Bratten of Woodburn, and Susan & Dallas Ingram of Murphysboro; 4 step grandchildren; 1 step great granddaughter; a brohter, Dallas Wilkinson of Greenfield; and two sisters & a brother in law, Carla & Bill Brady of Jerseyville, and Kathy Wilkinson of Collinsville; and numerous nieces & nephews.She was preceded in death by her father, Curtis Wilkinson; her stepfather, Jesse Short; and a niece, Jamie Cox Watters.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday at the First Assembly of God in Jerseyville, with her uncle, Rev. Clyde Shaw, and her cousin, Rev. Terry Turner officiating.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to Betty's Babes, her Jersey County American Cancer Society Relay for Life team in care of the funeral home, or to the Make a Wish Foundation.
