Larry Neal Sebastian, 74, died suddenly at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his residence after a period of declining health.

He was born in Atlon on Dec. 7, 1935, one of three sons born to the late John & Saide (Welch) Sebastian.  He graduated in 1954 from Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto, and moved to Jerseyville in 1970.  He was a part owner of Altronics in Jerseyville, and later operated his own repair shop, Larry's TV, in his own on Pine Street.In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father & brothers, and was a voluteer basketball coach for the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools girls basketball teams for many years, and was an enthusiastic and loyal supporter of his children & grandchildrens endeavors.He married Mildred (Gress) Taake on Sept. 1, 1970 in Carrollton, and their nearly 40 year marriage consolidated two big families into one larger loving group.Surviving are his wife, Mildred; nine children & their spouses, LeAnne & Ron Blue and Vivian & Terry Vatole all of Alton, Amy & Daniel Heitzig, John & Nancy Sebastian all of Jerseyville, Wendy Sebastian of Winston Salem, NC., Ellen Sebastian of Juneau, Al., Lori & Craig Thurston, Kelly & Robert Manns all of Jerseyville, and Cpt. Christoper & Janet Sebastian, stationed with the U.S. Army in Long Beach, Ca.; four step children & their spouses, Patricia & Mike Norris, Randall & Terri Taake, and Bradley & Jean Taake all of Jerseyville, and Gayla Taake of Livingston; 39 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; a brother & sister in law, Dwight & Rosemary Sebastian of Brighton.He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Shane Allen, and a brother, Meridith Sebastian.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville with a prayer service being read at 3:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating.Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools of Jerseyville or to Masses.
